Abstract

The friction pivot mounting for an automobile aerial (7d) comprises a base (6) secured to the vehicle body and carrying an upstanding flange (5a) electrically connected to a coaxial cable leading from the mounting. A stirrup member (7) to which the aerial wire is rigidly secured receives the flange (5a) between its stirrup arms (7a,7b) and is pivoted thereto by a bolt (8) passing through an opening in one arm (7b) and the flange and screwing into a screw-threaded hole (9) in the other arm, with friction washers between the flange and the two stirrup arms. The opening in the one arm (7b) has a hexagonal portion (10) adjacent the flange to receive a hexagonal bracing piece (12) through which the bolt passes, the bolt flat head sitting in a larger dia. cylindrical portion of the opening and gripping a serrated washer against the bracing piece. Pivoting of the stirrup pivots with it the bracing piece which, through the serrated washer, carries the bolt thus preventing it from unscrewing the stirrup.
