Abstract

Composite self-supporting panel for thermal insulation comprises a slab of foam flanked by supporting timbers or beams enclosed in a common jacket of waterproof film. Esp. suitable for insulation of agricultural or industrial buildings in moist environments, e.g. animal stalls requiring regular cleaning with hot water. Claims include panels with cores of phenolic foam covered with stretched film opt. of PVC polyamide, polyester or, pref. heat-shrunk polyolefin film which is treated to be an infrared reflector and thick enough to also provide physical and chemical protection. The panels are strong enough to lay on rafters or to be pinned to a vertical wall. Opt. the panels may be covered with corrugated sheet nailed to the timber borders.
