Abstract

The protective cover is for the cervical spinal column and is fitted into a jacket used for sports. It consists of a semi-rigid shell (1), in thick leather or synthetic material, which is reinforced by bands of steel (3) and has holes (4) in it to provide ventilation. There is padding (5) round the edge of the neck (6), to avoid direct contact between the shell and the skin. The shell is fastened by bands of hooked pile fastening fabric. At the front of the shell is a support for the chin (8).
