Abstract

The plant stem gathering comprises two sprockets in the same plane, round which a chain runs. Tines hinge on the chain and on links, which in turn also hinge on the chain, and retract when travelling round the sprockets. The sprockets (1, 2) are spring-loaded apart, but can move towards each other when a tine (5, 5a) defects on encountering an obstruction which together with its link (7) applies tension to the chain (3) to cause it to sage between the two hinge points.
