Abstract
The double universal joint may connect two revolving shafts end to end, allowing the two shafts to subtend a relatively large angle at the intersection of their axes. It is designed for ease of assembly or dismantling. Shaft end yokes converge on a cage of a two piece welded construction, each being mounted on a cruciform axle. Cage journals locate cruciform axle ends and each yoke presents an axial ball end to a centre plate. the latter is circular and built centrally onto a sleeve which locates the balls being free to slide on the bisectrice of the shaft angle. Plate guidage is provided by a cage bore groove and two annular plates secured by circlips. The removal of either or both annular plates permits extraction of the centre plate.
