Abstract

The automatic fan is operated by a battery and is arranged to switch on in response to particular ambient conditions. The fan may be switched on by failure of the mains supply immediately, or after a specific delay. It may be operated in response to a general alarm - for example a switch having a glass to be broken in an emergency, or a phone alarm. The fan may also be responsive to automatic detectors as well as being switched on manually. If an electric supply cable is cut, or the supply interrupted, it will automatically switch on, giving positive security. The fan is primarily intended to introduce fresh air into stairways, and evacuate smoke in the case of fire. For this reason it is constructed to withstand temperatures of up to 450 degrees centigrade.
