Abstract

The ball and socket joint utilises an annular houseing receiving a spherical pivot or ball in a cage or bush of material with good load bearing properties. A housing cover applies a definite axial force to the pivot through the medium of a compressible elastic ring. The cage may be in two pieces and be of a resin such as Delrin (RTM), the back piece inc. an annular rebate locating the ring. A housing shoulder may locate the cover a definite axial interval clear of the cage, and the cover may be secured by deforming casing wall metal over a cover flange. The pivot may inc. a flat face located by a domed cover recess.
