Abstract

Structure is built by erecting spaced transverse arch frames with their feet on individual pads freely movable in any direction on the ground, securing by its eges a fabric strip loosely between each pair of frames, and horizontally longitudinally spreading the frames at spaced levels by a removable load-regulated power jack to give uniform fabric tension, and then securing the frames in position. The strip is pref. of impervious PVC coated nylon, polyester, fibreglass, Teflon (RTM), Kevlar (RTM) or polypropylene, resistant to moisture, mildew, insects, extreme temps. and sunlight, and which is fire retardant and self-extinguising. The tensioning load is pref 10,000-12,000 lb. and the pads are finally secured with ground anchors. The arrangement allows a structure to be built from lightweight readily handled modular components.
