Abstract

The basket is for rearing scallops etc. and comprises a bell-shaped perforated body, detachably secured to a flat base, which is likewise perforated. It can be of elastic plastics material, the body and the base are clipped together. The body and base are joined at the centre by a reinforcing stem perpendicular to the base. The ends of the reinforcing stem have inclined arms which snap into engagement with holes in the base and body. The stem ends can protrude at both top and bottom, having eyes for engagement by hooks, and external collars which bear against the outside. The collars can be used to join several baskets in a vertical array using spacing members to connect the upper collar of one basket to the lower collar of an adjacent basket. Such an array can be secured to the sea bottom and supported by a buoy to give breeding cages at different depths.
