Abstract

Cooling towers for contact processes between a fluid and atmospheric air have around their base >=1 air inlet opening. Deflection plates flank each air inlet opening; their radial length is at least equal to their height. This greatly reduces the detrimental effect of wind speed and direction on the cooling efficiency and air distribution of the exchange section of a cooling tower.
