Abstract
Appts. for making ozone comprises a pipe connected to earth at zero potential in which is placed a body connected to a source at high potential. Air is fed to one end of the pipe and leaves at the other. The body is a metal wire provided with projections and is coaxial with the pipe. The summit zone of the projections has a much smaller radius of curvature than the rest. It may be in the form of an acute angle. Difficulties associated with the use of discontinuous coatings, e.g. rupturing and fragmentation when the nature of the coating is different from that of the metal wire itself, are avoided. Investment costs are reduced and the yield in mg ozone per watt-hour is good. The installation gives good stability of operation, requires no maintenance and is applicable to the laboratory and industrial establishments, particl. for purificn. of effluents and water and industrial processes requiring ozone.
