Abstract
Fly bait comprises (a) a food consisting of or contg. an amino acid source and (b) as aroma substance natural raspberry and/or blackcurrant juice, syrup, conc. or dried extract. The concn. of the aroma in the compsn. is pref. 0.5-10 (esp. 1-8)wt.%. The foodstuff component of the compsn. pref. contains 2-100 (esp. 10-100)wt. amino acid. The compsn. is pref. a toxic bait contg. an effective amt. of an insecticide. Pref. compsns. contain 0.01-8wt.% dimetilan, dioxacarb, malathion, azamethiphos and/or fenitrothion, and are pref. in the form of granules of particle size ca. 0.05-1 mm. Amino acid contg. foodstuffs (e.g. meats) are highly attractive to injurious flies, partic when they are decaying, but their smell is unpleasant to humans. Raspberry and/or blackcurrant masks the unpleasant smell without reducing the effectiveness as an insect bait.
