Abstract

Flood lights (P) are fixed to an arm (2) which is supported by a mast (1). The arm (2) can be raised or lowered by a cable (5) joined to two separate cables (3) which pass over pulleys in a pulley block (6) fixed to the mast (1). The pulley spindle runs in slots in the side plates of the pulley block (6) and is forced upwards by springs (15). The weight, of the arm (1) normally overcomes the force of the springs (15), but if one of the cables (3, 5) break, the pulley is forced upwards against a brake block which grips the cable (3) and so supports the arm (1).
