Abstract

The press having a single tool fitted at any one time, allows punching and nibbling of workpieces positioned on a flat rectangular bed (1). The press is motor driven and can be programmed to cut and position itself using magnetic or punched tape. The single head (17) has a built in AC motor (20) providing the vertical oscillating tool action (19) and is carried on a bridge (7) driven along rails (3) on the length of the bed (2) by a DC motor (12) driving worm gearing. Movement across the width of the bed is governed by another DC motor (16). The head itself can be rotated through about 170 deg. by a further DC motor (18) mounted on the carrier (14). Control of the head position can be via a shaft (24) and a head (22) reading a plan etc., again mounted on a flat bed (26).
