Abstract

The plug spanner is designed to limit effective tightening torque whilst permitting enhanced untightening torques to be applied. It has the conventional tubular box spanner form with e.g. a hollow hexagonal section head, a fixed radially projecting handle lever being provided for tightening purposes. The end remote from the head includes diametrically opposed edge notches (8a, 8b), of an approximate 'L' shape with the top of the leg opening out on the tube lip, and with the bars (7a, 7b) pointing in an anticlockwise direction. The notches are for engagement by a tommy bar during plug removal, and notch geometry is such that the tommy bar will slip out if clockwise torque is applied.
