Abstract

The valve for controlling the flow of a liquid has a valve head (7) mounted on a spindle (9) which can slide axially within the body. To prevent the retention of liquid on the downstream side (5) when the valve is closed, a vent hole (20) is provided in the end of the spindle. When the valve is open, the radial hole (19) which connects with the axial hole (20) is sealed off by the surrounding body of the valve, but when the valve is closed, the radial hole is exposed to any liquid on the downstream side and allows it to be drained away.
