Abstract

Imide gp.-contg. polymers are prepd. by reacting:- (a) a bis-maleimide of formula (I). (where A is phenylene or -phi-T-phi-, where phi is p-phenylene and T is -CH2-, -C(Me)2-, -O- or -SO2-, (b) N-vinylpyrrolidone, and (c) an ethylenically unsatd. monomer other than an imide, pref. acrylamide or styrene. The polymers have low inscosities at 100-130 degrees C and adequate pot life. They can be used for casting or impregnating at moderately high temp. After cooling and grinding they form powders which can be used for compression moulding. Other uses include coatings, adhesives, laminates, cellular articles, varnishes etc.
