Abstract

The prosthetic hip joint comprises a main stem fitting into the medullar of the femur and tapering towards the end, a rigid collar inclined to the main axis of the stem and a spherical femoral head articulating with the acetabulation. The shaft is made up of several longitudinal elements which slide relative to each other to provide the shaft with a degree of flexion. The ends of the elements fit into a slot in the femoral head at one end and into a rigid cap at the other. The individual cross-sections are circular with the same or varying diameters.
