Abstract

A rear axle subframe is mounted on a car body, or a lorry cab on a chassis, by resilient mountings. Each mounting comprises two metal half-cylindrical shells (1, 2) surrounding a central metal member (3) with a rectangular cross-section. The longer sides (5) of the central member are bulged and have elastomeric blocks (7, 8) vulcanised to them. - Each block is vulcanised to the inside of a respective shell. Upon installation, the shells are compressed together to compress the blocks to provide in their radial plane a high strength, but allowing transverse flexing.
