Abstract

The rear axle of the track guided road vehicle is normally held rigid on the chassis and can be displaced when cornering in the guide tracks. Sensors at the sides of the vehicle follow the contours of the track and act on hydraulic dampers in the trailing arms of the rear axle suspension to pivot the axle about a mid point (12). The vehicle is able to negotiate tight curves without dragging the rear wheels. The trailing arms are fitted with arrays of parallel dampers to provide an overall support to prevent lateral distortion.
