Abstract

The inhaled and exhaled gas fow detector has a principal tube which divides into first and secondary tubes. It also has a shutter system which is sensitive to the direction of flow of a gas in the principal tube. The shutter closes the first secondary tube and opens the second secondary tube when the gas flows in a first direction in the principal pipe. Gas flow in the reverse direction has the opposite effect of the secondary tubes. The shutter (15) rotates between two positions in each of which it closes one of the secondary tubes (10, 11) and opens the other (11, 10). A motor (17) rotates the shutter and a detector (21) determines the direction of gas flow in the principal tube. An electronic circuit (22, 37) controls the rotation of the motor according to the direction of gas flow determined by the detector.
