Abstract

Battery having a Li anode, an electrolyte, an inert cathode collector and a liq. active cathode material contg. electrolyte solvent, has in the active material, an ester of an oxyacid of S or P. Specific esters are dimethyl sulphite, dimethyl sulphate, trimethyl phosphite and trimethyl phosphate. The electrolyte also contains a solute formed from an alkali salt (salt of Na, K or Li), pref. selected from the perchlorates, hexafluoroborates, hexafluoroarsenates, trifluorosulphonates and tetrachloroaluminates of Li. The passivation of the Li is partly reduced. The cpds. have a low vapour pressure at the working temp.
