Abstract

In the quartz watch according to the invention all the time displaying hands (of the hours, the minutes and, possibly, the seconds) are kinematically permanently connected to each other, so that their relative positions are precisely fixed, whatever manipulations are made by the user. As shown, the rotor 7 of a stepping motor drives seconds wheel 16 driving a wheel 20 (on the minutes hand shaft 23) driving hour wheel 28. A clutch may be provided between the rotor and the seconds wheel. Pulling out a stem 64 to a hand setting position energises automatic hand setting control circuitry having a detector sensitive to the manually controlled displacements of the hands and a counting device for finishing off these displacements and for memorizing the time impulses during the manual correction. The arrangement ensures automatic setting of the hands in the exact time indicating positions, thus permitting a user who travels from one time zone to another to make rapidly the necessary manual adjustment without prejudice to the previous precision of the time indication. Accurate setting of a seconds hand may also be provided.
