Abstract

A sewing machine for sewing garments by overcasting uses a chain stitch. Garment pieces pass through the machine sepd. by short gaps, but the chain stitch is continuously produced. Cutting means sever the chain stitch between the pieces. A pulsing air tube is provided to hold down the chain stitching and position the stitching on the new piece. A device is provided comprising a cutter and an air tube on a machine where the needle is associated with a looper pin which is held in the normal position of work by a mobile support, capable of displacing to the back of the machine, when the air tube directs pulsing air on to the chain stitch. Unsightly looping has been noticed on the edge of the sewing, until the retrating looper pin was introduced on the machine, caused by an accumulation of stitches in front of the pieces coming under the needle. By displacing the looper pin, the sewing remains clean of fault.
