Abstract

A drum has circular flanges (2) which carry plates for protecting a cable which is wound on the drum. A set of circular U-section members is connected inside each flange, the bases of the members being secured to the flanges. Each set has at least two sectors which define a circle. The open sides of the members (9) face one another and constitute slides to receive staves (15) which are introduced through an opening in a side wall of one of each set of members.
