Abstract

A microwave chamber is fitted with telescopic extraction to enable the length of the chamber to be varied to suit the nature of the item to be treated. Used esp. for microwave heaters for continuous curing of extruded rubber or crosslinked thermoplastic hose. The heater can be tuned to suit variations in the profile dimensions or the compsn. of the extrudate material to achieve efficient heating without replacement of the unit. Specifically the basic generator drives one or more resonant cavities connected to one or more circular wave guides. The chamber may be enclosed to allow operation under vacuum or contg. a natural atmosphere, opt. pressurised, with suitably sealed profile inlet/outlets.
