Abstract
The impact absorbing car bumper is fitted with a cellular plastics structure with a hexagonal cell shape. The structure has two sizes of cell in two distinct regions to provide two stages of impact absorbtion. The larger cells provide an initial soft impact retardation without damage to the bumper, while the smaller cells provide a harder resistance before the bumper supports are displaced.
