Abstract

The prosthesis is used to replace a hip joint and is made from a suitable compatible material. It comprises a ball joint (3) fitted onto a neck (4), an enlargement forming a shoulder (2). A spike (5) extends behind the shoulder, this being curved to suit the shape of the medular canal. After removing the ball joint on the bone, the spongy bone tissue (8) of the medular canal is removed for a depth sufficient to accept the spike. This latter has a flat end (7, 9) and an air groove (6) and fits into the pre-shaped cavity.
