Abstract

Solar heating system consists of a houding having a top cover which is transparent to the solar radiation falling on it. It contains a collector element which absorbs any radiation entering the box and which contains passages through which a heat transfer medium can be passed. the transparent cover is of glass, PBF, polycarbonate, etc. Mounted between the transparent cover and the absorber is a heat trap. This is of cellular construction and consists of a large number of adjoining cells. Their walls are formed from a continuous piece of transparent thermally mouldable material which is opaque to any infra-red radiation omitted by the absorber element and form a single unit with the walls of other sections. Used for heating a heat transfer medium such as a gas or water by solar energy. The use of honeycomb type heat traps is known but the weld structure of these tends to keep out some radiation. The construction described improves on this.
