Abstract
The automatic focussing system for a camera, microscope etc. employs appts. for scanning a number of picture elements in an image, with light sensors, such as photo-diodes, producing corresp. electrical signals. The signals are processed in circuitry including a picture element distributor, consisting of e.g. a shift registeR. Signal processing produces signals corresp. to differences in the brightness of adjacent picture elements from which the smoothness of brightness change is derived. A signal is produced by calculation to have a max. value when the image is sharly focussed. A control signal is derived from controlling the movement of a lens to give an image of desire sharpness.
