Abstract

The keel is fitted to a sailing boat and is in two parts, the lower (15) sliding telescopically into the upper (10) and the closed pair retracting into a sealed recess (1) in the hull (2). Retraction is effected by means of a motor driving threaded rods (4', 5', 8, 9) through a reduction gearbox (3). Gears (4, 5, 6, 7) at each end of the threaded rods intermesh to provide synchronous operation. The lower section has recesses (16, 17) to accommodate the threaded rods and both parts are guided by bearings (20, 21) sliding over the plain guide rods (11, 12, 13, 14) to provide a uniform descent and ascent.
