Abstract

The system comprises a pulse former at a variable frequency in response to variations of the input signal, a converter to give the input signal in numeric form, a counter to count the impulses produced during successive time intervals, a primary memory to record these counts, a microprocessor to analyse the memorised impulse counts and give a resultant signal, a secondary memory in which a predetermined program is memorised to control the operation of the microprocessor, and to an output signal unit to give the resultant. The microprocessor distinguishes the points of the base line signal, and etects the locus of each point or the appearance of a major or minor point following melting, giving the signal which represents the surface of the first point in relation to the base line signal. The secondary memory gives an output signal representing the height of the surface in the column, the output signal being made easily read on a teleprinter.
