Abstract

Injection moulding tools for making plastic bodies for electrical connectors etc. feature channels in the parting line faces to form integrally moulded strips which link successive mouldings. Channels at each end of the mould from tabs of complementary patterns which allow the trailing tab from each successive set of mouldings to be over-moulded and fused with the leading tab of the next shot of mouldings. The continuous string of mouldings discharged from the moulding tools may be wound on to e.g. storage drums, pref. with the orientation of the mouldings controlled. Mutual support minimises risk of damage to mouldings during discharge. Control of moulding orientation simplifies subsequent fitting of inserts, e.g. metal contacts, thus facilitating automation of assembly without requiring elaborate vibrators for reorienting randomly aligned individual bodies.
