Abstract

Aerosol containers with undercut lips and mono- or biaxially oriented bodies are made by injection moulding a preform having the required lip profile and then protecting the lip from deformation while thermally conditioning, orienting and blow moulding the preforms to the required body shape. Used esp. for mfr. of oriented PET containers with mouths shaped to accept standard 25mm dia. valve caps as fitted to conventional metal pack bodies. Process allows combination of existing cheap, mass-produced valves with bodies which are lighter and more robust than conventional metal or glass aerosol containers.
