Abstract

A sachet (1) made of thin plastic film about .05 mm thick consists of two strips welded together along three edges (3, 4, 5). The open end (2) has a trapezoidal shape and is reinforced at the mouth and neck with thicker plastic strips (16, 17). The body is divided into a series of pockets by transverse welds (19) with small gaps (20) at each end. Water is poured into the open end (2) and flows into the pockets which swell to form cubes with rounded edges. The satchet is placed in a refrigerator so that the water freezes and forms a chain of ice cubes. Individual cubes can then be torn off along the lines of weld (19) as required.
