Abstract

Ce chalumeau principalement destiné à découper sous l'eau comprend une électrode 10 composée d'un tube métallique extérieur 12 revêtu extérieurement d'une matière isolante et renfermant de préférence 6 baguettes de fer ou acier, et une baguette d'aluminium, magnésium ou titane de même diamètre, un câble 24 qui relie l'électrode à une source de courant électrique et une poignée 18 munie d'une soupape - manette 22 - et qui est munie d'un tuyau 20 communiquant avec une bouteille d'oxygène. Les fils sont de préférence disposés contre la paroi du tube de manière à laisser libre une lumière qui concentre le jet d'oxygène. Après avoir amorcé la combustion de l'électrode au moyen d'un arc, on peut interrompre l'alimentation électrique et percer ou découper des matériaux non conducteurs tels que le revêtement des canalisations sous-marines, le béton, les coraux, etc. Ce chalumeau peut être alimenté par un équipement portatif autonome porté par un plongeur.
