Abstract

Two-stage catalytic cracking process comprises (a) passing a suspension of fine catalyst particles in a gas-vapour mixt. through a cocurrent reaction zone operated at 420-560 degrees C and 1.1-3.0 atm (abs.); (b) separating the catalyst from the effluent; (c) feeding the entire effluent into a countercurrent reaction zone comprising fluidised beds of regenerated catalyst, operated at 420-560 degrees C. and 1.1-3.0 atm. (abs.). Process further comprises (d) sepg. the catalyst from the effluent; (e) regenerating the catalyst sepd. in steps (b) and (d); and (f) transporting the regenerated gas to step (c) in a carrier gas comprising a petroleum fraction boiling below 350 degrees C (pref. below 240 degrees C) and/or steam. Compared with one-stage cracking, the gasoline and C3-4 yield is increased by 15-20%, the gasoline octane no. is increased by 2.0-2.5 units, and the olefin and S content of the gasoline is reduced by 20-50%.
