Abstract

The tool to pick-up and transfer a contact lens uses the suction cup principle. It has a slender elongated tubular body (2) with a head (3) of trumpet mouth form, and an elastic pouch (5) mounted over the rear (6). Air is expelled by pressing the pouch (5) to create a vacuum at the head (3). The head (3) is then applied to the lense, the pouch (5) released, and the lens picked up by suction. The head (3) may be formed by a tapered increase in the diameter, or the tube (7) may be of trumpet-mouth, bell, or cup form and may have supple lips (11). Alternatively the walls (10) of the head may progressively diminish to a knife edge (11), and the internal bottom surface (9) of the head may be at right angles to the air outlet (4). Further alternative forms may include an air-permeable pad filling to the head (3), and the pouch (5), may be incorporated in the tube to be deformed by a lever or a piston.
