Abstract
A duct runs in a closed circuit at high level in a coach or railway carriage. It has inlet openings through which conditioned air enters and individually controlled discharge registers on its inside perimeter. Immediately inside each inlet opening there are fans which circulate the air round the duct. If all discharge registers are closed the fans overcome only the friction within the duct as the air follows a completely closed path. As an increasing number of discharge registers is opened, the output of the fans increases to handle the extra load.
