Abstract

In a process for dyeing or printing cellulose fabrics with aqs. dispersions of water insoluble, lipophilic dyes, the fabrics are treated before, during (pref.) or after dyeing or printing with a compsn. contg. (a) an acid ester or ether, contg. COOH gps., which is water soluble; (b) opt. a polyol contg. >=2 opt. substd. alcoholi OH gps. and (c) opt. a water soluble or dispersible cpd. contg. >=2 epoxy gps. Following this treatment the fabric is heated Pref. the compsn. contains (a), (b) and (c) and the OH gps. in (b) are etherified. The process gives good and level dyeings or printings which are resistant to repeated washings. No yellowing of white background occurs and no unpleasant gas is generated during the thermal treatment. Cellulose-polyester blends may be used. Good general fastness is obtd.
