Abstract

The loaf is first sliced transversely into an assembly of adjacent slices. The sliced loaf is advanced as a unit, in a direction at right angles to its longitudinal axis, until located in a separator mechanism. The separator spaces out the slices longitudinally of the axis of the loaf and the spaced slices are transferred to a conveyor. The conveyor maintains the slices in spaced, upright positions as it carries them into, through and out of the toasting oven chamber. Used in the mfr. of rusks and toated slices of bread. The bread slices are maintained in upright positions throughout the process. This saves considerable space compared with toasting slices horizontally.
