Abstract

The safety belt quick-release system is particularly for use in a motor vehicle, the harness being anchored to the bodywork at top and bottom. A housing (1) is secured to the bottom anchorage point or the vehicle floor, having one or more rocking retaining hooks (7) engaging with the end ring (9) of the belt. The hook is normally held and locked in the engaged position by a hand-operated key (12) and secured by a pin of very low shear strength. In an emergency the key is pulled out of the housing by hand, whereupon the hock instantly swings into the release position, aided both by a compression spring (14) inside the housing and the tension on the belt.
