Abstract
Sheets of essentially unrefined cellulose or fibrous materials contg. cellulose can be dried by evapn. of the liq. phase present. Before drying, 1-15% (by wt. of dry material) of fibrils or fibrids of a synthetic fibre-forming polymer of surface area >1 m2/g is added to the cellulose paste. The method is esp. useful for dealing with wood paste or a semi-chemical cellulose paste. It increases the speed fo drying of these materials by up to 50%, compared with existing methods, thus reducing considerably the energy consumption and therefore the cost of this part of the cellulose extraction process. The fibrils do not modify the properties of the cellulose.
