Abstract

Decoration of mineral glass using, in combination, the physical and chemical properties of glass and marking materials, consists of (a) cleaning the articles in open air, chemically or mechanically; (b) cleaning the articles in vacuo (1 mm Hg pressure) by degasing or by heating with a plate heater for several mins.; (c) subliming decorative metal on to the articles; (d) sublimation of SiO on to the articles to colour them; (e) application of a mask representing the decoration to be produced; (f) sublimation of SiO on to the articles. Used for articles needing to be transparent after decorating, esp. lenses of spectacles. Articles can be decorated without loss of transparency to vision.
