Abstract

A flame reaction process comprises establishing a helical flow of a first gaseous reactant within a cylindrical container, feeding a second gaseous reactant radially outwardly into the helical flow and feeding the resultant helically flowing mixture into a flame at the discharge end of the container whereby a hemispherical or mushroom shaped low velocity flame is maintained. The claims are directed to the reaction between bromine and hydrogen. Production of hydrogen bromide. A stable, long-lasting low velocity flame is produced.
