Abstract

The current flow in an insulated conductor is measured without damaging the insulator. There is a caliper (T), the semi-circular jaws of which carry the winding of an inductor transformer (1). The transformer is placed around the insulated conductor by separating the semi-circular jaws at circumferential position (e) by pivoting on a diametrically opposed hinge using handles (5) and (6). Induced current in the transformer from the encircled insulated conductor is conveyed to a circuit of measurement (G). This circuit is comprised of a solid state sealing circuit from which deflection signals proportional to the current in the encircled conductor are derived. The deflection signal is applied to a galvanometer on which by use of scales, a reading of the conductor current is obtained.
