Abstract

A process for purifying water by eliminating microorganisms comprises passing the water contg. oxygen across a filter made of a fibrous inorganic material, pref. a mineral wool. Also an appts. for purifying water comprises a filter bed of the above material in a container with water inlet and outlet. Process and appts. are used in swimming baths, aquariums, for drinking water, for a water supply or for a filter which also softens the water by removing Ca, Mg or Fe. The filter is able to remove microorganisms of below 10 mu size and also 10-100 mu. with high throughput.
