Abstract

A low voltage circuit breaker comprises a principal circuit (10) having separable contacts (12, 14) and a trip (20) sensitive to the fault current, such as a bimetallic or electromagnetic element, inserted in the fixed contact. A circuit (24) in parallel with the trip is connected to an electrode (28) disposed near the fixed contact and in the region of the formation of the arc (32) formed when the contact is separated. An extinction chamber (34) is associated with and may be connected to the electrode (28).
