Abstract

Mechanical force transmitting structure comprises an elongate core of agglomerated fibres, to the ends of which are fixed end fittings each having a core sealing holder which becomes wider from the centre to either end of the holder to provide radial compressive force on the core, and to maintain at least some of this force in a zone in the end fittings, even when the structure is not under load. The core is protected by an elastomeric sheath outside the sealing holders. Each end fitting is extended to define with the surface facing the sheath a gap filled with a sealing member which is integral with the end fitting. The sealing member has a blind cylindrical hole which opens on the side of the sealing holder and in which is force fitted a bracing ring pref. of epoxy resin or polyurethane.
