Abstract

Appts. for automatically fitting heat shrink sleeving over e.g. containers comprises a combination of a suction grip for removing flattened tubular sleeves from a stack, a second suction grip for opening the sleeve to receive a mandrel, a split mould with suction walls which can hold the sleeve fully open to allow the mandrel to be removed and a container positioned within the sleeve, and a carrier to transfer the sleeved container to an oven for shrink fitting the sleeve. Used for applying sleeves to containers etc. of cylindrical or other cross-section, esp. where the sleeves may be slightly longer than the container body so as to overlap and grip the shoulders and base of the container. Esp. for applying pre-printed sleeves rather than printing directly on to the container body. The sleeves can be positioned more reliably and require much less clearance, e.g. 1 mm dia. than sleeves to be fitted manually, thus reducing the area and cost of (expensive) heat shrink tubing required for a given size of container.
